Sports: Benin Coach Reacts to 2-1 Loss Against Nigeria

The head coach of Benin, Michel Dussuyer, has stated that there is no shame in losing to Nigeria's Super Eagles in the 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifier match which was played on Wednesday.

The Squirrels suffered a 2-1 loss to the Eagles at Uyo. Stephan Sessegnon scored the first and only goal for Benin five minutes into the first half but it did not stop the Eagles as Osimhen and Kalu showed their ability in front of goal for Nigeria.

In a media interview, Dussuyer talked about the game...

We played well in the first half, defended well, Nigeria did not create many opportunities but we conceded a penalty just before the half time which gave more confidence to Nigeria in the second half. The second half was very hard for us and we wasted many balls, gave it to Nigeria so many times. In the end, we tried to recover after conceding and we had an opportunity at the end (which hit the post) but it is logical; there’s a difference between Nigeria and Benin but we have fought for as much as we can.

Their next match would be against Sierra Leone on Sunday at Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo.
